Slept 13 hours. Brilliant.
Have headache. Brain throbbing. Less brilliant.
Shower now equals pressure of toddler urine (Circe's descripton). Also cold water no longer lives in our shower head. It is all hot, all the time. Not brilliant.
About to go over to parentals, turn on heater, warm up house with free electricity, eat spiral lasagna and watch Zoolander while Cath has a bath. Very brilliant.
Spent 20 minutes reading Amanda Palmer's #LOFNOTC twitter feed. 140 characters of brill.
Overall brilliance rating: 387

A conversation:
Mum, pointing to the 'fucking' on my Amanda Fucking Palmer shirt: Excuse me. What is that? Me: Uh, that's Amanda Palmer's middle name. Mum: Oh dear... Is it really? Me: No mum. Mum: Well I hope you don't wear it around people.
Bless.

I am the nija recycler! I put wine botles in unsuspecting recycling bins hat have been left out by people a day after recycling day.
Also I accidentally stole Tim's epencise tequila. It's on top of the panty in the Tim Zone with the ancient blue alcohol someone left years ago and what hasn't been drunk yet.
I'm drinking water though what I really want to be drinking is pie.
Mmmm pie.
I am excited by the prospect of not getting up tomooorow morning. Which does mean I am finished at National till the holiday (ok, next week, for two weeks) but then I'm DONE FOREVER probably and this makes me sad. Although sleeping in till 3pm is AWESOME.
I want pizza and pie and subway and kfc all at once but not actually co ew. But all of them or any of them. Mmmm. Foods.
Yesss.
Feel bad. Went to woots and drank and wached Clerks one and two with Roasioa and donkeys, but Peter was all sick in the other room and he might hab been asleep but i feel like a bad sister for not bringing him soup. Tha's okat on Saturday I wll bring him tequila and totally destroy what little remains of his immune system.

The LFoD has been practising it's (their?) dance moves for the Slave Auction. Should be a good one. Woot and Peter, I hope you vacuum the floor first.
Or Jen could wear a suit made out of velcro.
That would be hot. She'd be like BabyMop.
My phone's out of money (big surprise) and Vodaphone seems to have stopped doing that IOU thing so I have to remember to top it up when we go shopping tomorrow dammit. I also have some nice important scenes to write in DL which I have been looking forward to for a least a year (when was Nikki last in NZ? Because the plot idea for what's supposed to happen tomorrow was born about a week after she left. That's a long time ago. Also hi Nikki, everything was foggy today and it reminded me of you!)
It really was foggy today. All the poor kids playing soccer in the park could hardly see their own goalposts. I laughed from the bus.
Last Thursday we all went to see Rent. It was a grand old time and Laura fell up some stairs and startled some posh women. The custard was delicious and the stage was AWESOME which is apparently what happens in private schools. The toilets were about on par with Cashmere's, though. Rather disappointed.
It was interesting what they changed for the school's edition and what they didn't. Like replacing 'faggots' with 'homos' I could understand, but removing 'dildos' and keeping 'slit her wrists in the bathtub' just seems completely out of balance. But like Leah pointed out, you're totally allowed to gruesomely murder people on tv but if there is sex then the ratings soar up. Why is suicide more acceptable than sex toys?
Also fail to see why 'dildos' got chucked but 'motherfucker' got to stay.
The lack of dildos made me very sad.
But it was completely and utterly hilarious when Roger and Mimi had their first snog, and their mikes were on, and so the whole audience got a few seconds of lip slapping and sucking and wet noises before the sound people sorted it out.
Made lasagna tonight. It was awesome. Ness came over and we watched Atonement and Michael Jackson videos. Atonement was wonderful if slightly overly wanky sometimes, and it fit in nicely with my reading theme of the moment. Seriously, I hadn't noticed, but almost everything I've read recently has been set in WWII.
Everyone should read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It's beautiful. And had become intrinsically linked in my brain with muesli biscuits, because I ate a couple of them while reading it. But that's really not important to the story.
Oh but I'm also reading Soup Belle de Jour which is the diary of a call girl. Very educational on the subject of fisting (I learned all about the internal vacuum, for example). Otherwise, kind of boring. But I've never been good with biographical things. It's a failing of mine. I'm half way through the book and there's no damn character development yet! Where's the plot? Where's the story?
Yeah, I need stories. They're important for my mental wellbeing.
Now... away!
OH and I have to tell you about the nap I had when I got home from work. IT WAS AWESOME.
That's all now.

The LFoD approves of Leverage, very much :D
Eliot is very very very tasty with his long hair and extreme bassarsery. Mmmm monkeysex in horse stables.
Saw Bottle Shock today too, it was awesome and Eliza was a hero and all the clothes were form the seventies and Chris Fine was FINE. Alan Rickman should narrate my life. Wine is so beautiful. I love flares.
Okay episode four time now! Thank you w00t!

So they're taking bets at South as to who is gonna get hit with Swine Flu first. That's exciting. There's also big fuck off notices from the health board on the doors saying 'IF YOU ARE SICK GTFO.' But in nicer words. More or less.
I told Cath I might have swine flu yesterday and she went running down the hall to hide behind her doorframe before she would talk to me. Apparently Linwood Intermediate has it and someone from National library was there last week, and then someone else at Nat came down with a fever, so me and Alina resigned ourselves to a swiney swiney doom. (But it was an anticlimax, because the fever turned out to be something else, which, good.)
So those are my two encounters with swine flu this week. Hurrah imminent pandemic.
I'm reading The Book Thief at the moment. It's narrated by Death. This is awesome.
Less awesome, as Cath pointed out, is that there are people campaigning to get Fransceca Lia Block's Baby Be-Bop banned from libraries and someone is even demanding compensation for being exposed to the themes of the book (GAY PEOPLE OMG).
But the libraries are pretty much unanimously telling them they're idiots, so that's nice.
And before I go I'll add some things i've learned today about the world of music
- slips of the tongue are awesome when someone accidentally sings "I'M ON A GOAT". - also the Black Eyed Peas suck beyond the telling of it - Greenday's album American Idiot is now a MUSICAL. Ahahahahaha.

Everything is so pretty outside today, all the trees are dying and the ground is muddy and covered in leaves that aren't quite crunchy anymore and it's a little too cold to be comfortable and I love it. Reminds me of something I can't remember, which is a little weird, but maybe the thing about things or places or people or weather that mean something to you is that you can't really explain it or remember why. I think that sentence made more sense in my head.
So, onto the really exciting news. How appealing does this sound: Cavort with the side show carnival as they travel the globe and pick up acts and dances from around the world, the wilds of Borneo, the forests of pacifica, swords of the orient and drunken gypsies from the colds of Siberia, come and experience the mentalisim of the their master …
Mentalism, swords swallowing, dance and drunken mayhem.
Night of the Sideshow Gypsies oh yeah, baby.
June 19 and 20, 8 pm, $20. At 'The Loons', 16 Canterbury street, which is not the one in Hornby but the one in Lyttleton, so... there's an expedition for us.
Cooome.

HELLO.
My nails are electric blue and i met a girl who knew Amanda Palmer today and Peter and Alina were in the library acquiring books and I am slowly slowly losing my memory, either that or my flatmates are playing cruel tricks on me by telling me I've said things when I HAVEN'T. And letting me think I was ready to go to the supermarket when I was still in my dressing gown, I swear that was Leah and Jen's fault somehow, I swear it on my monkey.
Also we watched Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and I had to hide under my dressing gown because OH MY GOD MARILYN PLEASE JUST STOP.

Dear Jennywren
We have left a note for you in the bathroom and I might see you in the morning, so this is incase you wander blindly past the note and me:
If you try to shower in the normal fashion you will burn off all your skin.
We do not want this. We like your skin. It keeps in your bits. Well it tries.
Dad came round and fixed the shower so we can actually have hot showers again instead of pissweak warm ones, and he's turned the cold water down, which means if you turn up the shower right up to uberhott like we do, it'll probably burn you, so just have a wee (hehe) experiment and a bit of a fiddle (hee) and you should be right.
Here's hoping we're not all awoken by burning screams in the morning.
xoxo (bladder)
PS BY THE TIME YOU READ THIS IT WILL BE ED DAY!

Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
FUCKING BEEP! WHAT THE HELL IS IT!?
Okay. Me and Leah just searched through my wardrobe for the beeping (she was in a towel! :O) and I found a billion old things including The Ugly Stick (with which me and Jen once hit people) and a certificate for participation in Kids In Town (I think it was a music thing. In town) from 1997 AND 1998 and all the while this thing going beep beep beep right in front of my face but unfindable, until I found it, and it was a smoke alarm, that had been guarding my bottom drawer from fire all these years (I haven't opened the draw since I moved house pretty much, more than four years ago) and had finally run out of batteries.
Yikes.
Also, Leah has changed out of her towel and is now wearing orange pants. (These pants are, yes, mine.)
Also headache is shit.
But today rocked. With the kids, and the book making, and meeting Brian Falkner who I've never read but who is pretty cool in person. I bought him water and tried not to go all stupid about meeting a famous person even though I'm not a fan or anything and he isn't really even famous famous.
A couple of years ago they had John Marsden there. I would have been a nightmare, falling over myself and squeeing and manically grinning and yelling THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY FOURTEEN YEAR OLD SELF across the library. Because when I was a teenager, MCR didn't save my life, books did. Ellie from the Tomorrow series and Aerin from Hero and the Crown (also god help us all if I ever get to meet Robin McKinley) were my heroines. And they say that girls only have pornstars and princesses as role models these days.
Anyway. Have to find the headache killing pills now.

Somehow I've managed to go from library assistant to running a table of arts and crafts for twenty odd* children under the age of ten at the NZ Book Awards tomorrow. I'm not entirely sure how this happened, but it did mean I got to play with glitter and cardboard all day today. Most excellent.
Oooh and a hole punch. I love hole punches. And all the tiny little holes of card that live inside it!
Little worried about the hoards of small children though.
* odd meaning 'ish'. Although I don't doubt some of them will be. Odd, I mean. Not ish. I don't know how you be ish.

Last night I dreamed I was a dragon. Ahahaha fuck you, I am.
I have new armwarmers they are seriously the most beautiful thing on the planet apart from Bartek and Taylor making out in the shower.
It was Alina's birthday today! She is 90 and nearly done. We threw her an LFoD style fry up for dinner and then had abstract breast cake and mousse for dessert and watched a lot of Mills and Boon type things and also some pron. There was some champagne. Most excellent.
Okay must fly!

S'raining. People at work have been called the predicted weather today a 'weather bomb', which sounds dramatic.
Last night I had parental roast then I had to poke around with finances and I was falling asleep, because of the roast and the warm and the boring, so I had three cups of coffee, only they didn't hit till I got home, and then there was hyperactivity, and not going to bed early, and now there is exhaustion.
Lindisfarne is soooon. Must actually join mailing list so I know when to book or something. That's one weekend at the end of May, and then June and July will happen, and then it's Winter Weekend which I want to go to, and last night magically mailing list emails started coming to my inbox. So there's that, and then a few days later, me and Circe are most probably taking off for Mangoland, so lie in a hammock and drink wine for two weeks. Or so. But the mango and the wine are definite things. And when we get back... LARA! Hurrah! So August is pretty much a write off for awesome.
The last of my coffee went cold just now. Gross.
So, I really have to start actually trying to save money, so that miraculously I have enough money for all the things I want to do. Also wondering if I have enough leave to get all of August off...
Okay. Must get dressed now. Long day of being rained on as I run from bus to bus and library to library.
